Ashtanga Yoga Workshops with Dan Fanthorpe, 20-21 June 2015   

The workshop comprised 2 days x 4 sessions over one weekend facilitated by Dan Fanthorpe, Ashtanga Yoga Newcastle and was open to all levels.  It was held on Sat 20th June & Sun 21st June @ TTY Nicholls, 125 Temperley Street, Nicholls

We were honored to welcome Dan to our studio for this valuable and inspiring workshop weekend with attendees of mixed abilities ranging from complete beginners to advanced practitioners.  The weekend took the following format:

Sat, 20 June, 8.00-10.00am

Primary Series and you
Knowing your strengths and working with your weaknesses through the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

Sat, 20 June, 2.00-4.00pm
This workshop segment taught us how to improve & build confidence for vinyasa transitions, inversions and flying.

Sun, 21 June, 8.00-10.00am
Mysore Style Class
In this workshop segment we practiced the Ashtanga Primary, Secondary or subsequent series under Dan’s guidance and received individualised assistance and instruction.

Sun, 21 June, 1.00-3.00pm
Introduction to Adjusting
This workshop segment helped us develop skills when adjusting students. We had an in depth anatomical look at the spine and a look into how to adjust some of the most common asana’s for the different body types. This workshop was recommended for teachers and students who wished to further their understanding of the body.

About Dan Fanthorpe

Dan Fanthorpe has been practicing yoga for  27 years. He has a background in Iyengar Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Meditation and Yoga Therapy.

Dan started practicing yoga with his mum in his childhood.  In 1997 he completed his first teaching diploma with the IYTA in New Zealand.

Since then he has been influenced, trained & worked with some of the most humble Yogi’s around the globe. In 2010 Dan was blessed by his teacher (Sharath Jois), Mysore, India to teach the Ashtanga Yoga Method as a Authorized Level 2 Teacher.

Dan lives & teaches in Newcastle but regularly travels locally and internationally to teach workshops and retreats.
