Handy Hints for (Covid-Safe) Face to Face Classes

ATTIRE

  • Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing (for physical yoga wear breathable or quick-dry fabrics and something to cover up with at the end of the class).
  • Physical yoga is practiced barefoot (or you can wear non-slip socks).
  • Please refrain from wearing strong perfumes & fragrances.
  • For physical yoga, if possible, practice on an empty stomach, ideally 1-2 hours after your last meal.

MATS & PROPS

  • Mats can be provided on request or participants can supply their own mat
  • Bring one or two large blankets or towels to place over our props, if applicable.
  • Feel free to bring your own props (e.g. bolster, blocks and/or strap) if you have.
  • If you borrow any of our studio props, please cover them completely with a large, clean blanket or towel and clean them thoroughly with the antibacterial spray and wipes provided, after each use.

BEFORE CLASS

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts to allow yourself enough time to settle into your space in a relaxed way.
  • If you feel unwell please do not come to class. For private individuals please cancel our class providing as much notice as possible. Ring or SMS to 0409 329 887.
  • If you have chronic or temporary injuries & health conditions (including pregnancy) keep your teacher WELL-INFORMED. Let him/her know before class, not after, and keep reminding them! Keep in mind that yoga practice should always be done under supervision of a health physician if there are health-related circumstances.
  • Hydrate well – drink water or electrolytes to keep muscles supple and assist with the elimination of toxins.
  • For physical yoga, if possible, set up your mat (and props) in a room with some empty wall space. We can get creative and use the wall as a prop for some of our poses, which is both fun and relaxing and a great aid to learning alignment and providing support for some poses.
  • Please clean your hands with the hand sanitizer provided by the studio before class.

DURING CLASS

  • Try to prevent outside distractions during class time (eg alert co-workers or family members, switch off or mute mobile phones, keep pets away etc)
  • Hydrate well – drink water or electrolytes to keep muscles supple and assist with the elimination of toxins.
  • Keep a growth mindset about your physical yoga practice. Respect your body’s limitations: rest/modify when needed, yet be open to exploring your amazing possibilities!
  • If you need to leave a physical yoga practice early, try to spend at least 2-3 minutes in Savasana (relaxation pose – flat on your back, palms up, arms & legs slightly apart or knees bent) regardless what the rest of the class is doing,

AFTER CLASS

  • If applicable, please wipe down your own mat and surrounding floor space using the antibacterial spray and wipes provided by the studio after each class.
  • If applicable, please clean any studio props you may have used (spray/wipe mats, spray blocks & straps)
  • Clean your hands with the hand sanitizer provided by the studio.

GENERAL ADVICE

  • Keep practicing!  This is equally important for meditation/mindfulness as for physical yoga. For physical yoga it is natural to experience sore muscles, especially if you haven’t used them for awhile. For all types of yoga, the more you practice, the better you will feel.  A regular yoga practice is recommended to receive the full benefits.
  • Most of all HAVE FUN and don’t be afraid to ask questions or provide feedback!

Handy Hints for Online Classes

  • The class will be open 5 minutes before class start time, so feel free to come in early and settle into your space.
  • Your mic will be muted upon entering the class (to avoid audio echoes) but you can unmute yourself anytime if you want to say or ask something. Please keep your video ON during the class so I can keep an eye on what you are doing and keep you safe.
  • Make sure you have a yoga or exercise mat with a good grip if doing physical yoga.
  • If you have props such as a bolster or yoga block please have them available (or you can create makeshift props by using 1 or 2 firm cushions/pillows wrapped up in a beach towel as a bolster and/or a high, very firm cushion or 2-3 thick books wrapped up in a towel or blanket in place of a block. These are not essential but can be very helpful in enhancing your class experience.
  • For physical yoga, if possible, set up your mat (and props) in a room with some empty wall space. We can get creative and use the wall as a prop for some of our poses, which is both fun and relaxing and a great aid to learning alignment and providing support for some poses.

Keep in mind that a physical yoga practice should always be done under supervision of a health physician if there are health-related circumstances.
  • Keep a growth (as opposed to fixed) mindset about your physical yoga practice. Respect your body’s limitations: rest/modify when needed (every pose has a modification), but be open to exploring your amazing possibilities!
  • If you need to leave a physical yoga practice early, try to spend at least 2-3 minutes in Savasana (relaxation pose – flat on your back, palms up, arms & legs slightly apart or knees bent) regardless what the rest of the class is doing,
